Sharsies
Sharesies provides access to several markets, so "start and finish" times depend on which exchange you are trading on. You can place an order at any time, but it will only be processed on the market during these hours:
New Zealand (NZX)
Hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (NZT)
Pre-open: Orders can be placed starting from 8:30 AM, but they won't fill until the market officially opens at 10:00 AM.

Australia (ASX)
Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (AEST/AEDT)
NZ Time: Typically 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM (NZDT) or 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM (NZST), depending on daylight savings.
Days: Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

United States (NYSE, Nasdaq, CBOE)
The US market operates while New Zealand sleeps. Because both countries use daylight savings at different times, the NZ hours shift throughout the year:
Current (Summer/NZDT): 3:30 AM – 10:00 AM
Winter (NZST): 1:30 AM – 8:00 AM
Extended Hours: Sharesies also offers an "Extended Hours" feature for the US market, which allows you to trade in the pre-market and after-hours sessions. You can toggle this on in your investment settings

Mea Culpa Tuesday 27, January, 2026
I fucked up and put in bids overnight, queuing up with others for a big buy that pushed prices up and triggered a big sell, so ended up paying way over the odds for the shares in gold, and I did it twice, DUHHHH! Not smart.
I stayed up late bidding on a PC at 11.20pm so didn't want to wake up early to look at sharemarket. So used Sharsies and put in for Gold & silver shares. So ended up buying at high and got thumped. So will HAVE to keep shares now for a more long term return.
That was not my plan, I wanted to be in and out quickly. So led by heart rather than head.
The plan was to monitor the opening of the stocks and then buy, so see what the markets were doing before dipping my toe in.
I'm a bit freaked out by this but have decided to look at Aus market and have put in another $150 NZ into sharsies so I can see if I can try to do strategy I was planning to do, look at opening of market and see what shares do, then invest. Aus opens after 12pm so will look to do that then
